Piterson Gabriel, ce jeune médecin au service du football haïtien.

Le football, ce sport si passionnant, met trop souvent au devant de la scène les joueurs et les entraîneurs. Pléthorique est le nombre de spectateurs qui ignorent encore l’importance de ceux qui font un travail important au sein de toute équipe professionnelle. Les appréciations ne sont que pour les praticants alors que, sans certaines personnes opérant dans l’ombre, ils ne seraient que des hommes ordinaires frappant dans un ballon. S’il est vrai que ce sont les joueurs qui courent tout au long de la rencontre, leur condition physique dépend, toutefois, de quelques autres personnes dont les médecins, les préparateurs physiques, les physiothérapeutes entre autres. Si l’on se vante des recentes performances de nos sélections (toutes catégories confondues) dans les compétitions internationales, les médecins y compris le jeune Piterson Gabriel y sont pour beaucoup.

Sur les cinq dernières années, les sélections nationales – la catégorie féminine lors du mondial U20 en 2018, la catégorie masculine au mondial U17 en 2019 ou encore la sélection séniore lors de la Gold Cup la même année – ont fait la joie de toute la population qui vit une situation stressante qui ne fait que s’empirer.
Les U20 se sont parvenues à se qualifier à une phase finale de coupe du monde (2018), une grande première pour Haïti à ce niveau. Les U-17 masculins, après 2007, ont joué une autre coupe du monde et la sélection séniore a même frôlé la qualification pour la finale de la dernière édition de Gold Cup. Tout cela aurait-il été possible sans l’aide des médecins mis au service de ces derniers ? Piterson Gabriel, médecin sportif, a choisi une carrière loin d’être ordinaire et la voue désormais au sport le plus populaire en Haïti.

Qui est Piterson Gabriel ?

Né à Darbonne à Léogâne en 1985, Piterson Gabriel a fait ses études primaires à l’École Sainte-Marie (sise à l’angle des rues la Croix et Sainte-Catherine). Il a fait ses études secondaires au Collège Saint-Jean dans la même ville. Ayant un penchant pour la médecine, Piterson a quitté le pays après son cycle scolaire pour se rendre au Venezuela où il a passé sept ans étudiant la médecine à l’Université Romulo Gallegos. Ce septennat à l’étranger lui a non seulement permis d’avoir une connaissance importante en médecine générale mais aussi d’apprendre la langue de Miguel de Cervantès qu’il parle aisément.

Après ces sept années passées au pays de Hugo Chavez Frias, Gabo s’est rendu au Brésil pour une formation en médecine sportive. Pour un ancien footballeur, ce fut fort logique.

À son retour en Haïti, le jeune Piterson Gabriel s’est vite trouvé un boulot, de quoi mettre sa connaissance au service du peuple spécialement les jeunes. En 2016, il a travaillé au Centre Olympique comme formateur en Médecine Sportive. Deux (2) ans plus tard, il a retrouvé le Centre FIFA Goal dont il est devenu le responsable du service médical. Comme tout bon patriote, reconnaissant, Piterson n’a pas oublié sa ville natale. Il prête actuellement ses services aux clubs de la cité d’Anacaona notamment l’Excellence Academy Football (EXAFOOT) et l’AS Cavaly à titre de Coordonnateur du staff médical où Malachy Léveillé, Peterson Badette, Willerme Joseph et Auquel Larose tirent profit de son expérience.

Très dynamiste et disciplinés, Piterson Gabriel caressent de grands rêves. Il souhaite moderniser le système médical du football haïtien vu les nombreux cas de blessures à la cheville et au genou dus au piteux état des terrains souvent faits de terre battue. Les rares terrains dotés d’une pelouse synthétique sont dépourvus de matériels nécessaires comme pelette ou encore brosse destinés à la protection des joueurs. Un autre problème qui ronge les joueurs locaux. Très peu de clubs ont un préparateur physique dont la mission serait d’élaborer un plan stratégique et dynamique pouvant soigner le corps des joueurs. De fait, nos joueurs ne peuvent résister à une grande charge musculaire et sont fortement sujets à des blessures. Questionné par Le Consultant sur l’être humain caché derrière le professionnalisme du Dr Gabriel, Dutherson Clervaux, capitale de l’AS Cavaly eut à dire à son propos : « Mon expérience avec Dr Gabriel est une bonne chose. Dès que j’ai commencé à le côtoyer, il m’a toujours montré que c’est un homme très discipliné et il donne beaucoup d’importance à cela. Au ranch de la Croix-des-Bouquets, il a toujours veillé sur moi notamment sur mon régime alimentaire. Ces genres de personnes sont à féliciter. Dr Gabriel est un homme de bien ».

Fort de ces constats, Piterson Gabriel propose l’élaboration d’un plan national avec les clubs via la Fédération Haïtienne de Football pour conscientiser les clubs sur la raison de ces blessures qui font tort aux joueurs. Entre temps, le nom de l’homme aux 36 piges est cité avec insistance pour devenir membre du staff médical de la sélection séniore menée par un autre natif de Léogane – Jean Jacques PIERRE. Une autre occasion pour grandir professionnellement pour Piterson GABRIEL.
