Les Blues de Chelsea vivent actuellement une sale période. Quoiqu’ayant glané une première place lors des phases de poule en Ligue des Champions devant le FC Séville, Franck Lampard, après une bonne saison l’année dernière, peinait à trouver la bonne formule cette fois-ci notamment en Championnat et ce n’est pas la victoire contre le Luton Town en FA Cup qui allait changer la donne. Et effet, les dirigeants ont annoncé ce lundi l’éviction du banc de l’ancienne gloire des Blues.

Les londoniens ne traversent pas un bon moment car malgré les folles sommes dépensées lors du dernier Mercato estival pour rapatrier Timo Werner du RB Leipzig, Kaï Havertz, Hakim Zyech de l’Ajax et Thiago Silva en provenance de la capitale française, leurs récentes prestations ne sont point au niveau des attentes. Ils sont actuellement dixième en championnat avec huit victoires pour 19 matches joués. Incapable de redresser la barre, le meilleur buteur de tous les temps des Blues de Chelsea a dû laisser par la petite porte l’endroit qui fût pendant longtemps sa maison.

Un Mercato XXL pour des résultats peu impressionnants

Les joueurs arrivés au Nord de Londres l’été dernier ne brillent pas encore et les nombreuses performances ratées peuvent soulever des interrogations quant aux sommes folles misées sur eux. Timo Werner a par exemple passé une longue période dans marquer alors que Havertz a du mal à s’intégrer dans le système de jeu de Frankie. Thiago Silva, pour sa part, malgré le brassard de capitaine n’est pas une totale assurance dans la charnière centrale. En somme, un effectif bourré de talents mais une équipe qui galère sur le terrain.

Il est devenu courant que l’entraîneur qui s’installe dans un nouveau club soit face à un énorme défi puisqu’ils (ces entraîneurs) remplacent souvent quelqu’un qui a échoué au poste. Après une belle époque à Dortmund, celui qui n’a jamais fait l’unanimité au Parc des Princes s’apprête à embrasser un gros challenge. Après l’Allemagne, la France, Thomas Tuchel découvre l’Angleterre, un championnat où les attentes sont énormes. Espérons toutefois que Thiago Silva lui fasse une topo de la situation.

Dixième en championnat, aller le plus loin que possible en Ligue des Champions serait une étape pour oublier cette mauvaise passe et ça impliquera notamment une qualification contre les leaders de la Lige Santander en l’occurrence l’Atletico de Madrid à l’issue des matches aller et retour les 23 février et 17 mars prochains.
