CONCACAF || Éliminatoires des J.O masculins de Tokyo ; huit équipes pour deux places qualificatives

Via son compte Twitter, la CONCACAF a annoncé ce Jeudi 14 janvier la date retenue pour les qualifications des Jeux Olympiques masculins. Initialement prévue pour le mois de Mars 2020, en raison de la propagation du Coronavirus, cette phase éliminatoire a dû être reportée tout comme les Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo. Cette dernière aura lieu au Mexique plus précisément à Guadalajara du 18 au 30 Mars 2021.

La composition des groupes

Alors que le tirage au sort avait eu lieu en janvier 2020, les groupes restent néanmoins inchangés. Le Mexique tenant du titre mais aussi pays hôte et le Honduras sont têtes de série. Les huit équipes sont réparties en deux groupes de quatre :

Groupe A
  • Mexique
  • États-unis
  • Costa-Rica
  • République Dominicaine
Groupe B
  • Honduras
  • Canada
  • Salvador
  • Haiti

À travers ce communiqué, la CONCACAF précise qu’après la phase de groupes, seules les nations se terminant à la première et deuxième place (quatre équipes) se qualifieront pour les demi-finales. Les vainqueurs de ces deux matches quant à eux disputeront la grande finale du tournoi et valider automatiquement leur billet pour les Jeux Olympiques de Tokyo.

Deux stades ont été choisis pour le déroulement du tournoi ; El Estadio Akron où évolue le club Deportivo Guadalajara et El Estadio Jisco, le troisième plus grand stade du Mexique après l’Azteca et le Stade Olympique de Mexico.
