Sans trop grande difficulté, la japonaise de 23 ans qui est l’actuel numéro 3 mondial – Naomi Osaka – parvient à se défaire de l’expérimentée américaine Serena Williams, septuple vainqueur de l’Open d’Australie. En seulement 2 sets (6-3 6-4), la nippone a validé à juste titre son billet pour la grande finale de la 102e édition de l’Open d’Australie.

Après avoir mené 2-0 au cours de la première manche, celle aux origines haïtiennes a bien vite ricoché pour remporter cinq (5) jeux consécutifs et se procurer l’avantage avant de remporter le premier set 6-4. Dès lors, l’américaine de 39 ans se voyait dépasser par les services de Naomi alors qu’elle avait grandement espérer se qualifier pour la grande finale : ce qui lui aurait permis de remporter un 24e titre de grand chelem après celui obtenu à l’Open d’Australie en 2017. Cette victoire est la vingtième de suite pour Naomi Osaka.

De loin, Naomi et Serena sont considérées comme les deux meilleures joueuses du moment et aussi les deux meilleures serveuses en terme de puissance dans leur jeu.

Quatrième finale de grand chelem pour Osaka.

Alors qu’elle disputera ce samedi sa deuxième finale d’Open d’Australie à seulement 23 ans, Naomi tentera aussi de glaner pour la deuxième fois le trophée et du même coup, cette victoire va lui permettre de disputer une quatrième finale de grand chelem en carrière. Après la rencontre, Naomi Osaka s’est confiée sur la façon dont elle admire Serena, son idole d’enfance : « c’était un plaisir pour moi de jouer contre elle, j’étais un petit enfant qui la regardait jouer et être sur le terrain pour jouer contre elle pour moi est un rêve ».

Les trois titres de Grand Chelem en carrière de Naomi Osaka sont : l’US Open en 2018, l’Open d’Australie en 2019 et l’US Open en 2020. Cette finale peut lui permettre d’ajouter un trophée dans sa vitrine pour la quatrième année consécutive.

Ce samedi, Naomi Osaka affrontera l’américaine Jennyfer Brady en finale après sa victoire contre la Tchèque Karolina Muchová (4-6 6-3 6-4). En cas de victoire, la japonaise empochera la modique somme de 2,75 millions de dollars australiens.
